Review on "Can't Let Go"

I've just finished Gena Showalter's "Can't Let Go" another addition to her the original heart breakers series. I had taken a break from Gena Showalter as I haven't been a huge fan of her work lately, but I thoroughly enjoyed this latest novel. I love a spunky heroine and you definitely get that in Ryanne Wade, a woman determined to save her bar and melt the heart of war vet, Jude Laurent. Jude comes off as the typical brooding hero, but there's more to his story than ptsd from the war. He is emotionally scarred after losing his wife and twin daughters in a car accident by a drunk driver. He's determined to make sure that he keeps the local citizens of Strawberry Valley safe from imbibing too much, and he sets his sights on the local bar the Scratching Post. What he doesn't expect, is his instant attraction to the bar's owner, Ryanne Wade. Ryanne has had to witness her mother stringing along numerous men and does not want to follow in her footsteps. Just like Jude she tries to keep her heart protected. Sparks fly and those two are no match for the instant attraction that they feel for each other. Adding to that, Ryanne is being targeted by a rival business owner, Dushku, who will stop at nothing to make Ryanne sell her bar to him.

Gena Showalter's characters made me laugh and want to punch some of them. It's truly a roller coaster of emotions, as you see these characters fall hard and fast for each other. There are times when you just want to smack Jude upside the head. Ryanne is definitely one of my favorite female heroines of late. She's beautiful and not afraid to let people know when enough is enough. Their passionate romance scenes are sizzling hot! The friends that surround the two of them are enjoyable to read and I can't wait to see the author expand more on them. You really get inside the characters head and feelings, which is not an easy thing to write. This book was hard to put down, but I needed sleep!

I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read the next installment.

Enjoy!
