What have we got here? Seduction, betrayal, intergalactic war, oh my! This particular book spans over a decade and focuses on one Bastien Cabarro. The book details his survival after witnessing the brutal aftermath of the slaughter of his entire family, and his tumultuous relationship with Ember Wyldestarrin, all the while fending off the evil League.
So, I believe this is book 10 in Kenyon's "The League" series and it was...an addition, I suppose. I've really loved everything that Kenyon has put out in this series so far, but like many other reviewers, I felt that the scenes were a tad choppy and, of course, much of the content was from previous books in the series. I can't say I felt "betrayed" as some of the other fellow reviewers are putting out there (calm down guys). I think every series, especially one as long as this one is turning out to be, usually hits a lull. There is always that book in a series where the author focuses on a character that has been the kind of accessory-type character that was never the main star of attraction, but it used to further along everyone else's plot. Nevertheless, Kenyon is a solid writer and story teller. I have yet to read anything by her that led me to think "really?....is this it?" and I think that with this series in particular there is just so much going on that the author has to use a character like Bastien to kind of regroup and set up the next phase in the universe so-to-speak. But I still highly recommend her series (feelings of supposed betrayal aside).
I will give this 3.5 hedgehogs out of 5.
